Read our write-up here.  WH2DX and an AH0 scored a few hundred thousand more points but we did very well on multipliers, which was our strategy.  Better runs with maybe another 5-600 hundred QSOs would have given us #1 in Oceania.  If we brought in a crack team of ops it could be done but what's the point?  We prefer having fun, making incremental improvements, learning as we go and teaching each other new tricks.

Despite a significant increase on our previous year’s score with nearly twice as many QSOs, this “1st  ZL, 2nd Oceania” bit is getting boooring!  We’ll be gunning for 1st  Oceania from now on!

What a great weekend!  Lots of hard work but immense satisfaction abandoning the real world for adrenaline rushes between the stupefying periods of boredom.  Being at the bottom of the sunspot cycle with an SFI of just 69, it was hard to top last year’s effort but we equalled the position if not the score, achieving 2 of our 3 aims to have fun, improve the antenna and radio systems, and beat last year's score.  An SB220 amp let out the smoke from the main HT transformer this year but still we doubled last year’s topband score (!).

This was the club’s inaugural event using wire dipoles and two beams.  Our aims were to have fun, prove the site and radio systems and achieve a respectable score.  3 out of 3!  We only made one topband QSO this year so there is definitely room for improvement there.  Watch this space ...
